The premise of each level - collect gems and reach the exit - may not be a stretch for the genre, but BattleBlock’s execution has few peers, plus it boasts co-op, both online and off, loads of competitive modes, mini-games, and a level editor with Steam Workshop support. Its release is most definitely to be celebrated: BattleBlock matches shrewd puzzle construction with the furious pace and precise try-and-die challenge of Super Meat Boy, and yet fits all this in a difficulty curve so gentle you barely feel out of breath when you plant your flag at the top.

"The Vault"'s levels are a lot more hazardous than ever before, relying on all the skills the Player has learned up until now in regards to puzzles, platforming, quick timing and using Weapons. This causes the SS Friend Ship to be flung far away, an airplane with two visible people to break in two and an aircraft with an Alien (a reference to " Alien Hominid", another game by The Behemoth) to blow up.įinally, the beam reaches into space and kills a Space Bear (later revealed to be known as Honey Hug), setting up the events of " Pit People" - the Behemoth's next game. The crew then manages to get back onto the now-fixed SS Friend Ship and to escape the island.Īs The Narrator gives one final speech, the Player shares some hot cocoa with Hatty, but he's still unresponsive - even to hugs, to everyone's dismay.Īnd thus, the story ends with Hatty drowning after a wave hits the ship and causes him to fly out of it as the "Buckle your Pants" sequence begins.Īs he sinks to the bottom, the Hat lands back on his head, and a green aura appears around it shortly before it blasts out a green beam of light that reaches into space.

Now, it's up to the Player(s) to storm the Vault and save Hatty before the cats get to him.Īfter completing both Finales, they manage to get to the balcony of the Gift Shop and take Hatty, who is unresponsive, with them, by tying him to their back.Īs the Player(s) goes (go) outside, they see that the rest of The Crew started a riot after getting the firearms from the armoury in the Gift Shop, and they are now fighting off the cats trying to stop them. The cats, "being out for blood now", plan on killing Hatty so they can find a new theater manager to replace him and repeat their cycle of having someone overlook their deadly plays. With many staff members rioting and burning down parts of The Theater, the Vault is unsealed amidst the chaos, and the Player can go inside. The top floor of the Vault has red alarm lights, further emphasizing the urgency in the context of the story. According to one of the warning signs in the Lobby, not even regular cats are allowed through. The Lobby has green lights observing the player and is regarded as a restricted area with high security. The Vault's Lobby and its entrance are completely reworked, lacking the Gift Shop. Whenever The Player goes near said phone, it rings on Hatty's end, but he never picks it up. On the farthest side of the entrance to the Vault, the room is visibly separated by a thin wall between itself and Hatty's balcony that overlooks the Gift Shop, with a wired red telephone connected to the balcony. Stashes of Gems can be seen under the floor. Unlike the previous 7 Chapters, the Vault has an overworld wholly unique to itself being a Gem Vault behind the Gift Shop, with grey, metal walls, pipes and machinery surrounding the area.
